Leek Moorlands

Leek is an historic market town and gateway to the Staffordshire Moorlands and Derbyshire Peak District.

At one time Leek was famous for its silk mills, but it is now a nationally recognised antiques centre.

Leek Moorlands was granted a Market Charter in the year 1207 by King John. To celebrate the 800th Anniversary of the granting of this Charter, events are planned throughout 2007, culminating in a Market Charter Festival Weekend on 16 and 17 June.

Leek has some fine old homes and churches, and connections with William Morris, Norman Shaw and the Arts and Crafts movement. There is a good variety of small shops, as well as the usual high street chains.

From Leek there is easy access to Alton Towers, the Churnet Valley Railway, the Staffordshire Potteries and other attractions.
